FROM: Organization Center—Cliff Sawyer
SUBJECT: Danny Nagashima’s Message to the Gay Pride Parade Celebrations

To the precious members of the SGI-USA GLBT group:

Congratulations on the holding of your wonderful pride celebrations. I truly thank you for your participation, and I especially thank those who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes toward the success of these activities.
In his message for the 75th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai, SGI President Ikeda writes:
“Nichiren Buddhism guides us to achieve our individual human revolution while enabling us to reveal great strength of character from within so that we can contribute not only to our own happiness but also for others and society as a whole. What is most needed in this ever more confusing world is the kind of dialogue that, based upon mutual trust and respect, is capable of transcending any differences among people.”
I believe your gathering is symbolic of this spirit, expressing your powerful
determination to advance with justice and equality for the sake of the people. I am looking forward to your wonderful growth and expansion based on these efforts;
let’s continue to unite with the pioneer members, men’s and women’s division and the youth. Please advance valiantly, creating a glorious history toward 2010, and let’s celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai with boundless victory as Ever-Victorious America!
I am sincerely praying for your great health and success in all your endeavors. Once again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Danny Nagashima
SGI-USA General Director

Right on Erica! I think since the meeting are not held monthly that the in between times could be used to visit those LGBT members that are not attending. I think that maybe it could be a challenge for a LGBT member to "come out" to a SGI meeting at the center; that's why I think it would be good to connect one on one so they could feel at home.

Even though not that many people show up to Sacramento's LGBT meetings, I know that by just holding meetings at our Community Center is making an impact. Sometimes it is hard for LGBT members to understand why they need to support our meetings, but our meetings are there for people to feel comfortable about what it means to be gay in society and the obstacles we have being LGBT members. I know that at our last meeting we had more straight supporters than gay members and were able to open them up to what it means to be confuesed about your indentity and grappling with the obstacles of wanting to have children in a gay relationship. To anyone who is having a hard time starting their group up just remember, it only takes one person to make a difference and daimoku to move a mountain. So dont be defeated if no one shows up to your meetings, you will still recieve benefits in your life for creating a place for your fellow LGBT members to feel at home.
