About Me (tell us a little bit about yourself):
I've been an SGI member for 22 years. Proud to be an Arts Division member and striving always to be an artist for world peace. I've played professionally as a pianist/vocalist for 20 years. Currently, I teach music, chorus and piano for a living. I write songs, piano compositions & poetry. My dream is to publish my music & poetry. As a teacher of 490+ music/chorus students, my daily prayer is focused on fulfilling my mentor's (Pres. Ikeda) call to raise capable youth. (Since many people have asked me, yes, the music you hear on my page is my own original composition. Hope you like it!)

'Buddha Power' By Jenny Leigh Hodgins January 18, 2009

I interrupt this program with a new thought
brought to you by my determination that I’ve got
to exchange my old karmic ways
with positive steps to create the pathway
in my brain--A deeper ridge, a new groove—
the neurological, physical proof
of my appreciation and belief in my power
to transform myself and even our
tendencies toward living with pain
No more of that, from now it’s Gain,
Good and Beauty that I focus on
--kissing negative karma gone.

Hello to sunshine, even on rainy days,
From now I look for and find things to praise.
Even in a moment of utter dark and cold
I will find something there within to hold
as valuable, as a lesson for me to see
the potential strength inside of me
to change myself and to even change you
as waves of happiness steadily flow through
based on my battle within each crucial moment
to defeat every instance of personal torment.
It’s time to change my impossible dreams
into real and lasting possible things,

So I interrupt this program taped inside my head
with this new and improved version instead;
Let there be joy, love, and tremendous light
Let me sing my song with all my might
to be heard above the noise of inner doubt--
Let my song rise above, let this music out!
Now that my old karma has manifested
let my life now be completely filled instead
with all the good karma that wants to flow in its place.
--That old, bad stuff is expiated without even a trace
So now I am free, from within my treasure tower
I rise up, do my dance, celebrate my Buddha power.

Where My Joy Is..

 7/16/09 Jenny Leigh Hodgins

Today is my birthday…

Fresh slate, new dawn!

Begin--lay out the way…

Let past be gone!

Discard the old to see

Unpaved pathway--

My opportunity--

Chance to portray

Who I am, who I’ll be

Now and future

Starting inside of me…

This overture,

Musical drama, soars!

Shaping, singing,

Creating unique course

Moving, leading,

Guiding me… Continue

What’s Essential

Mundane tasks drive me past

Thoughts I hold of getting old

Busy busy, no time for me

All for racing, not much tasting

Sweetness of the moment

Breathing in the pure scent

of life’s full potential

Missing what’s essential

Can’t stop—No matter what

Too much flying—I keep trying

Scramble, tremble, fumble, ramble

Til I’m reaching, deeply seeking the

Soon Sings The Song by Jenny Leigh Hodgins 3/'09

Darkness like the ocean depths

Swirls like heavy waves…

Against murkiness, a struggle,

reaching for the surface where

I could finally breathe the air

Seems like ages I’ve been under

Swimming against the currents

Pushing, climbing, fighting, aiming

toward the light that shines

above, beyond, ahead. I find

All my energy has been spent

fighting on and on,

groping to pull from

the danger of slipping down

Gasping now… Continue

In This Moment

By Jenny Leigh Hodgins

January 25, 2009

Suffering from anger and despair

doesn’t get me anywhere

Diggin’ deep in my mind--

Changin’ my habit of bein’ blind

from seeing my own capacity

--believing in my true ability

Using great force to polish my life

Wipe away foolishness from inside

Not giving up until I break free

Cleaning out clutter so I will see

my life can accomplish much… Continue

You probably won't hear anything until November, if they work it like last year. I wish you the very best, I'm sure you will be hearing good news.

Hi Jenny. Thank you for your kind compliment of the photos I uploaded. I used to have a lot of variou cameras with exchange lenses. But for the past 10 years I just use digital cameras (I happend to use Canondigital cameras). By the way. the color photo (I took) of our Activity Center opening ceremony in March 2007 was introduced on Seikyo Shimbun newspaper in Japan as well as on the SGI website in the USA.

That sounds like a good idea. How does one go about becoming moderate? I have spent a lifetime avoiding that.
