About Me (tell us a little bit about yourself):
I first heard Nam Myoho Renge Kyo in 4th grade when my Mother was getting her Gohonzon enshrined in Atlanta, Georgia. We later moved to Sierra Vista, AZ ... when I was old enough, I was in fife and drum corp and went to all conventions. Our house became Grand Central station 3 times a week with PILES of shoes at the front door and when we had trips, the bus would be in front of our house at 2:00 in the morning (you know how loud that was in a neighborhood? I was so embarrassed).

Sierra Vista, AZ. is a GI town. With my parents divorced and having a Japanese mother with 5 girls and having these GIs in our home from 7 to 8:30 3 times a week, people were suspicious. There was a man, after coming to meetings for a couple of months, who apologized to my mom for being planted to see what went on when these so called meetings were taking place. I also remember when the judge came knocking on our door and asked if he could come in for coffee....my mom was so angry and told him if he wants to come in, he would have to come to a meeting.

We were poor and the car we had was old and stuff was hanging from the ceiling....everytime we turned a corner, the horn would get stuck and honk....we would duck and my mom would laugh and say "What's wrong with you kids, you should appreciate what we have...the main thing is, is we are happy." I look back now and see how she struggled, working 2 jobs, always sending us to conventions and always gone on the weekends to go to Phoenix (3 hrs) to meetings.

I received my Gohonzon right after graduating High School (to make my mom happy) and shortly after, I married and moved to Las Vegas. My mom told me that one day I will need the Gohonzon, so protect it and let nothing happen to it. About 10 years later I became very depressed and my mother told me it was time to start practicing. My life condition was so low that I didn't want to live anymore. She made me promise to practice for 3 months and guaranteed my life would change. I started practicing to PROVE to her that this would not work for me.

I was so angry that I would throw the book and beads across the room and in tears, but I promised her that I would do this for 3 months. After a week of doing morning and evening gongyo, she said to go to a meeting at least once a week. I did so and thought everyone in the room was all faking this happiness. I couldn't understand it....there was no way they could be this happy and smiling all the time. After a week, I felt something happening, but thought it was all in my head. After actually loving to go to meetings because I too was starting to smile, I kept wondering if this was all a coincidence, but after a while, I didn't care what it was.....I felt pretty darn good! I went to Study meetings because I wanted to learn more about why this works. Learning Nichiren's writings got so deep at times that it all made sense to me!

I can look back on my life and see all I have gained from this practice. I have huge goals. I struggle hard with my obstacles and at times it’s very hard, but always ready for the next one, which there will be many more.....hey, it’s life. The key is to NEVER GIVE UP!

I am sooo fortunate to know about this practice and also to have Sensei Ikeda as my life mentor. I have my answers to what I have been asking since a child and not confused or guilty anymore. I have searched many years for something that works for me and this is it! Today, I am a confident person and can get through my hardships with a smile.

THANK YOU MOM!

WORKING THE GANDHI, KING, IKEDA EXHIBIT IN LAS VEGAS

February 2009

The goal of the exhibit is to illustrate the menʼs mentors and influences, their

belief in mankindʼs innate dignity, how each man was able to translate his

principles into action, how they used nonviolence to bring about positive change

and each manʼs ability to remain true to his principles despite great adversity.

The Peace Community Relations Committee discussed bringing the Gandhi,

King, Ikeda Exhibit to Las Vegas 2 years ago. Before we… Continue

Thank you very much Linda. The past is just like a dream, the future in only an imaginetion-good or bad, but the reality is now. We must strive from this moment to create the greatest value in everything we can, for oneself and others.

Chanting NMRK is the greatest joy of all and it's power is as vast as the universe...with this Faith, sensei says;" Everything is possible." Let's strive with the spirit of our mentor for a total victory in our lives and for kosen rufu.

With best regards....Life is our choice...always chose to be HAPPY!..no amount of treasure can replace such moment and never stop chanting no matter what!....cheeerrrrrsssss...
