In my understanding, action and prayer act together to change us and our circumstances. And they are both driven by faith.

A friend of mine was unable to conceive for some years. All along she was praying to have a child, but in vain. Then, a leader friend asked her to "act" as well if she really wanted a baby, not just rely on prayer. So she went to see a doctor and was dicussiing going in for IVF treatment when she conceived. This is the true power of action fuelled by prayer.

I recently took over the leadership of a small company that had been facing losses for many years. I was very keen to turn the company around, so I made it my target for the year. Morning and evening I prayed for the company to become profitable. Alongside, I put several initiatives in place, some that required me to change a lot. Every day as I prayed, I thought of ways to improve the performance and put those ideas to work. Finally, at the end of the year, the company was profitable! I believe that the combination of my prayers and actions made it happen.

In a way, "action" requires that we put in effort in "doing" what is needed, in addition to praying for the right outcome. I believe that when we act with a specific goal in mind, our prayers guide us to make the right decisions and achieve what we want to achieve. Without action, prayer is often futile. Likewise, without prayer, our actions and efforts, often don't get us a lot.

In a way, this combination of action and prayer makes us active positive people who know what they want and make all the right efforts to get to them.
