Writings of Nichiren Daishonin - My 7th Reading

Posted on June 23, 2010 at 10:43pm 2 Comments

I hav just embarked on my 7th reading of the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin Vol.1, but this time around my approach is different from my previous, I want to stretch the degree of my assiduous study of the gosho by doing indexing on passages in the gosho based on practical application into our daily life and compile these passages into easily accessible form, this will be challenging. Just as SGI President Ikeda quoted in relation to assiduous study of Nichiren Daishonin's gosho where he said… Continue

I Got A Slap from Toda

Posted on December 17, 2009 at 2:22am 7 Comments

SGI President Ikeda wrote on his book "Thoughts on The New Human Revolution, Book 2 page 21" titled "May 3 and the Soka Gakkai Spirit". He related an incident about how serious Mr Toda was when he wanted to achieve his vow of converting 750,000 households during his lifetime. President Ikeda says in one of the paragraphs:

"Mr Toda never relied the least bit upon others. Mr Katsutane Baba, who was the Chapter Chief of Tokyo's Tsukiji Chapter during the early days of our movement, once wrote… Continue

Cancel the Cancer

Posted on December 6, 2009 at 2:55am 1 Comment

Last month, one of our Men's Division members in our district has contracted prostrate cancer, already in 3rd stage. He was quite terribly disturbed by the news, his world has suddenly changed into that of hell. Few of us comrades went to encourage him, straight to the point, that he ought to put up a desperate struggle against such terminal illness. We even organized chanting session for him & his family members.

In one of the session, I personally took a strong courage to "kill" his… Continue

A "Reverse-Relationship"

Posted on July 9, 2009 at 4:06am 4 Comments

Recently, I met a gentleman who is 15 years my senior. When asked about what kind of religion or belief system he is practicing, the answer is varieties, sounds like the more, the better. He is able to share quotes from the Holy Bible, The Quran & Buddhist Sutras, looks like Jack of All Trades, get what I mean! But when I share with him about Nichiren Buddhism & Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, he never heard of them before. After sharing with him some quotes from the Lotus Sutra, Shakyamuni's… Continue

Hi Josho,

The Value Of A Smile
by Author Unknown

A smile cost nothing, but gives much.

It enriches those who receive,
without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment,
but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it,
and none is so poor but that he can be made rich by it.

A smile creates happiness in the home,
fosters good will in business,
and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary,
cheer to the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad,
and is nature's best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it is something that is of no value to anyone
until it is given away.

Some people are too tired to give you a smile.
Give them one of yours,
as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

Thanks for your encouragement!
When you read the Gosho, Nichiren Daishonin really emphasize on spreading his teaching for the sake of humanity in the era of Mappo, the Latter Day of Law.
We are doing shakubuku, because it is the very Will of Nichiren Daishonin!
We must not forget that! :-)
