Believing in Buddhahood continued.......

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 2:29pm 5 Comments

As a consequence of changing section at work, to a job that involves me walking and standing a lot, an old slipped disc injury has been playing up. Furthermore, due to the amount of work and perhaps my advancing age, I often come home exhausted. This itself, can be a barrier to regular practice, as one is inclined to just crash out in front of the television etc. Generally, I am inclined to think that one should not beat oneself up about this, and look after oneself. However, yesterday I had a… Continue

Believing in Buddhahood

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 4:18pm 3 Comments

If only Buddhahood was easier to manifest! After 24 years practice, I still have days when I think it ain't there. Why can I chant for an hour, and not feel anything? In fact, I think if we are chanting, whilst trying to wrack our brains about how to proceed, then we are not really letting the daimoku work.

So how about a few practical examples. Well, the… Continue

Approach to Illness

Posted on June 8, 2010 at 12:15pm 2 Comments

Recently, I experienced a period of ill health due to a chest infection. This type of illness can make you feel lethargic and generally lacking the vitality of normal health. My morning sessions of daimoku felt lack lustre, and I found it difficult to feel the benefit of my chanting. At these times it is easy to doubt the value of our practice. …

Is the cup half full or is the cup half empty?

Currently in the UK we have had what some correspondents have called the worst winter for twenty years or more. Well is this true? Certainly we have had more snow this year, which has fallen earlier than usual. So, if you have an accident in your car, or you slip over and break a bone, you could be forgiven for agreeing with this sentiment. However, to do so whole-heartedly would be to ignore the value in this situation.

I for… Continue
