Impending Event...

It doesnt matter how many times or how many events I've run - it's always the final 10 days that are the most challenging.

Snagging - tying off loose ends, final problem solving, dealing with other people's worries, you name it. As the main organiser and point of contact - I am the face. The responsibility and onus lies with me - and if anything goes wrong - it's down to me, too. BUT - that's the negative side - the side that a lot of people concentrate on. I turn things to…

Being Enlightened Gets You Everything In Life

Being Enlightened Gets You Everything In Life

Enlightenment is about seeing through the illusions of life and knowing what reality really is.

When you are enlightened, you can have everything you want. Because you’ll know the truth about

what everything is, and what does it really mean to have something. It is an irony of the world

that the people who seek material things and desire to have them before thinking about

enlightenment, tend to attain… Continue

Manifest Desires Freely by Having No Expectations

Manifest Desires Freely by Having No Expectations

It is a most liberating experience when you are able to live life with an attitude of no expectations. When you have expectations, you have preconceived ideas of how things should be that you are attached to. Expectation creates fear because you think what you desire may or may not happen. Free of expectations, you can just go with the flow of the universe and not be affected by the outcomes that you encounter. Every…

Melody Gardot:My One and Only Thrill, Worrisome Heart, and Some Lessons, The Bedroom Sessions

The way one notices pregnancies all around when one is pregnant, I

started bumping into stories on Melody from the time her songs have been

playing in my head, and all of them talk about her struggles first and

her music as more of a consequence of her challenges rather than as her

primary function
as an artist. This is very understandable, since an

inspiring… Continue

Challenges are testing but when you look back on them....

I've faced some great 'little' challenges since becoming a member of SGI. I have proved to myself that this practice is real and works in conjunction with my everyday life.

This last weekend has been a challenge.

Working as a musician and being an events organiser I've managed to fit a 48 hour week into 3 days and it's taken its toll! My physical, emotional and spiritual strength has been tested by the actions of other people. I've comforted my…

Good Morning!

Good morning everyone. It is a beautiful day here behind the "Zion Curtain". (Northern Utah). I am at work until 3:30 PM. As some of the members know I have had an account here before, but canceled my account. I just got so busy that I pruned the sites and stuff I was spending time on until things mellowed out. I rearranged my priorities and came back here and left other sites. No ill will or anything, just busy while my priorities were out of whack. While I was gone I continued to practice… Continue

Reflections on life, death, Daisaku Ikeda, sports, hookahs and the eternal sea

(This blog was selected for "Books Highlights" and "Editor's Pick" on blogcritics.org)

Revered experimental fiction author Italo Calvino is new to me, although he has been writing and winning honors since long before I was born. "Mr. Palomar" is one of his landmark novels. What's it about?

In one chapter, the protagonist goes to the beach; not to watch the waves, but to completely isolate and analyze — dissect almost, with his intellect — a single wave. The task he has set… Continue

Maintaining Faith though HAITI Earthquake Disaster 2010

On rouite sailing from the Virgin Islands to Jamaica West Indies with faith no engine. Chanting daimoku and talking to the sun and moon daily for best weather and sailing conditions. I encountered storm after storm. Passing Puerto Rico my mainsail was torn to shreads.

The Mona Passage was like the Burmuda Triangle, no power for any electrictronic navigation instruments, wind comming from all directions. As black storm clouds appear on the horizon I make a course to stear clear and pass… Continue

Iceland volcanic eruption.

Just to inform you of the volcano which erupted in Iceland, Scandanavia last Thursday. As it has closed the air travel all over Europe, it is causing a great amount of suffering to many people, please could you include this in your Daimoku.

Many Thanks,

Joan, UK.

Wanting to see the moon over Kamakura

Eight loads in my SUV- donating stuff to various non-profits, all of my son's belongings to his group home.

Sweet honey man has been incredible- finding friends of friends who needed a dining room set and my son's room furniture.

I think I am now pared down to furniture and belongings for a small 1 bedroom or studio apartment (only 4 yrs ago I had a 4 bedroom house with basement, 2 car garage and pediatric office- lots of downsizing has been going on). Still packing, throwing out… Continue

Let's all, as Sensei says, "freely manifest our Buddhahood" in this auspicious year.

For now is this time, not some time in the future. It is the instant we chant and do gongyo that we manifest our highest condition of life. I have been beset by the natural gravity ("demons lurk in the world of Rapture") coming off my win in Spokane as part of a group of a chorus of Sweet Adeline barbershop singers, we won second place in our regional competition. I have been seeking to get back with members and was met with the stark reality of the enourmous struggle and suffering of their… Continue

Got the word last week that I have to be out of my rental townhouse by 4/18 to avoid eviction proceedings. I have one more unemployment check on my first extension. No longer receiving child support as son is in residential school. Still interviewing for work without success.

So I am moving for the 5th time in 4 yrs- have to get rid of a LOT of stuff so I am storing at a minimum.
