Nichiren inscribed Gohonzons

I am very curious as to why SGI has officially adopted a Gohonzon NOT based on the extant Gohonzons of Nichiren himself. When I refer to "The Gohonzon," in general, it is to that Living Reality which…Continue

I have a question which I'd really appreciate some help with. When I first joined SGI I made myself a little "study folder" including printouts from what was on the SGI website at the time. I think I…Continue

You gave the 'quiz' a one star? Yeah, right, you missed...humph...;-D Good thing I didn't write it, anyway. You should see my other silly quizzes I created in the past.

Welcome to the group, Kyle!! When you find time please read my blog post titled "The Aspiration for Enlightenment." You will gain much from it for sure ;-) It looks like you have a hoot of a wife in Best always to you and your family....

That's OK. Being born filipino, raised with uncles who were World War 2 veterans, and aunts (mum & dad also) who brought up stories of living hand-to-mouth hiding in the wilderness - swamps, forests, and jungles -- to escape the Japanese occupation...I was somewhat discouraged from 'trusting' anything Japanese. ;-D

About Me (tell us a little bit about yourself):
Hi, I received my Gohonzon in 2004 from my local SGI group (Madison, WI), practiced for some time, let things fall by the wayside and have recently returned to both SGI and the practice of N. Buddhism. I am an artist, writer, social worker and wish to sign up to this site to participate in reading and contributing to the forums. I would be grateful to be able share of myself with others in SGI via this site and to also learn and grow through the contributions of others.

Rearview Buddha Fast Approaching

Posted on October 14, 2009 at 9:30am 1 Comment

It is very seldom that I'll read a book that repeatedly strikes me with insight from start to finish, that leaves me without critical response or problematic passages. However, I just finished my first read of Mr. Woody Hochswender's BUDDHA IN YOUR REARVIEW MIRROR and feel that this is one such book. I've already been deeply impacted by it.

This book may be quite familiar to the SGI Community and the overall structure of the material takes the reader through the "basics." Longtime… Continue

The Ever Present Possibility

Posted on September 18, 2009 at 10:33pm 1 Comment

I attended a wonderful Staff Retreat this past week for work. The presenter remarked, in response to the problem of examining a challenging issue,

"Clarity where we are is always uplifting, even if it is sobering."

This was a very simple, short statement but one which sufficiently moved me.

I find that the Practice of Daimoku opens to a deep and profound realization of this statement.

In my own practice (and others may relate), I find Gongyo… Continue
